TP-LINK TL-WN321G antenna mod

Since there was no real mod I could find on Intenet I decided to publish my own. It is quite simple and straigh forward. It requires some soldering skills. And of course - that you are not moron.

Here you can see PCB of TL-WN321G USB Wi-Fi. Marked red is actually PCB antenna.

Here is what I did. I have simply cut-off PCB antenna (use soldering iron to get rid of PCB it will overheat and eventually separate) and soldered cable with connector.

Here is finished product. Now you can attach whatever antenna you like to your precious tp-wn321g usb wireless card. And of course - it works with BackTrack... But note that with this mod your precious usb will be usless without external antenna. Could it be done without touching PCB antenna? I don't know, maybe, but for me combination of PCB and external antenna didn't work. So I had decided to get rid of PCB antenna. And that's it.

Cheap RT73 based usb dongle TP-LINK TL-WN321G Wireless USB Adapter

The TP-LINK TL-WN321G Wireless USB Adapter gives you the flexibility to install the PC or notebook PC in the most convenient location available, without the cost of running network cables. Its auto-sensing capability allows high packet transfer up to 54Mbps for maximum throughput, or dynamic range shifting to lower speeds due to distance or operating limitations in an environment with a lot of electromagnetic interference. It can also interoperate with all the 11Mbps wireless (802.11b) products. Backtrack 4 supports this USB adapter out of the box (injection & frag), because in based on the RaLink RT73 chipset. My recomandation is to install the p_larbig 3.0.3 RT73 enchanced drivers.

Best Ralink RT73 USB Wifi Driver (patched for injection & frag)

I sugest to use p_larbig's RT73 USB enhanced drivers instead of the serialmonkey drivers because p_larbigs's are based off of the serialmonkey drivers, but have been already patched for Injection & Fragmentation Attacks, so you can utilize aireplay-ng in Aircrack-ng to its fullest. The lathest version (3.0.3) of these drivers can be downloaded from http://homepages.tu-darmstadt.de/~p_larbig/wlan/.

BACKTRACK NETWORK CARD SUPPORTED

The compatible NIC and drivers can be found on this website http://backtrack.offensive-security.com/index.php/HCL:Wireless.Some of these Hardware Compatibility Lists can potentially be outdated, as many were written prior to BackTrack 3 being released.

BACKTRACK 4 FINAL

BackTrack is a Linux-based penetration testing arsenal that aids security professionals in the ability to perform assessments in a purely native environment dedicated to hacking. Regardless if you’re making BackTrack your primary operating system, booting from a LiveDVD, or using your favorite thumbdrive, BackTrack has been customized down to every package, kernel configuration, script and patch solely for the purpose of the penetration tester.
BackTrack 4 Final is out and along with this release come some exciting news, updates, and developments. BackTrack 4 has been a long and steady road, with the release of abeta last year, we decided to hold off on releasing BackTrack 4 Final until it was perfected in every way shape and form.
With this release includes a new kernel, a larger and expanded toolset repository, custom tools that you can only find on BackTrack, and more importantly, fixes to all (well, most..) major bugs that we knew of. This release we received an overwhelming support from the community and we are grateful to everyone that has contributed to the success of this release.
We’ve moved BackTrack to a dedicated home, where you will be able to keep updated with the development status and latest news. Our goal was to finally produce a focused and dedicated security Linux distribution that has its own resources, personnel, and drive that have dedication in making BackTrack better than it has ever been.
